by Montale
Orchid Powder by Montale delivers a sweet, powdery, and slightly synthetic scent that evokes the nostalgic aroma of a classic plastic doll—specifically, the fabric and hair of a 1990s toy like Barbie. The opening features a prominent, almost medicinal-like bloom of ylang ylang intertwined with coconut and white florals, creating a bright, tropical sweetness reminiscent of sugared coconut water and talcum powder. This initial phase is intense and somewhat sharp, with a clean, soapy character that many users likened to Tide pods or gummy candy. As it dries down, the fragrance becomes more linear and subdued, shifting into a soft, vanillic powder with faint vanilla and plastic-like notes that linger long after the initial rush. The drydown is extremely persistent, often leaving a faint residue on skin that requires showering to remove, and produces a strong sillage initially before fading to a skin-scent intensity. While the scent performs well in terms of longevity, its character remains largely unchanged, offering little evolution through time.
