by Elie Saab
Cuir Patchouli by Elie Saab is a rich, deeply layered patchouli-centered fragrance with warm leather, spicy cinnamon, and amber undertones. It unfolds with a soft, almost mellow start that quickly deepens into a plush, slightly oily patchouli heart, warmed by cinnamon and amber, with a subtle, dark chocolate-like drydown. The leather note is present but subdued—more suede than harshly animalic—contributing structure rather than dominating the scent. The performance is moderate to long, with a sillage that’s more moderate than strong, and reflects most through night wear, aligning with cooler seasons. The fragrance gains depth and balance when applied to skin, where it softens from an initially heavy leather-amber opening into a sweet, musky, patchouli-amber base with extended longevity. It shares a strong kinship with Serge Lutens Borneo 1834 and Coromandel Chanel, featuring that signature luxurious, slightly balsamic amber-patchouli warmth—though it lacks the crisp, fresh top notes of Lutens or the clarity of Chanel’s version. It's less about balance and more about mood and presence, best worn in intimate settings or during evening hours. Many find it unisex and similar to Francis Kurkdjian’s signature artistry—elegant, private, and richly textured.
