by Issey Miyake
L'Eau d'Issey Wood & Wood presents a crisp, fruity opening dominated by grapefruit and apricot, softened by a subtle cardamom spice and a rich sandalwood base. The scent evolves into a soft, textured drydown with airy, powdery woods and a faint ambroxan presence, giving it a clean, modern tone. While the name suggests a strong woody character, the woods are background players—more aromatic and soft than bold or intense. The fragrance is pleasantly balanced, with a light, invigorating quality that makes it ideal for casual wear, office settings, or warm-weather days. However, performance is inconsistent: many find it lacks projection and longevity, especially on skin, with the scent fading quickly and becoming a skin scent within hours. Despite its versatility and unisex appeal, the overall impression is one of mild neutrality—pleasant but unremarkable, with occasional synthetic sharpness in the drydown. The scent is best enjoyed in cooler environments or when layered with other fragrances. It performs better on clothing than on skin, and it shares notable similarities with mainstream designer scents like Polo Red or Cool Water Intense, blending well into the modern, fruity-woody alignment of contemporary male perfumes.
